"It's hard to believe that it's been over 20 years since I worked on this project with Tracy and the gang! One of the great things about mural painting is that it tends to be a real collaborative effort and you get to work with all kinds of creative and talented people.
You get to learn different ways of doing things, new skills and tricks of the trade, and you 'get to' get out of your comfort zone and be challenged to find solutions to some very interesting problems. This project was no exception. Tracy did a fantastic job with all of the preliminary designs and coordinating with all the various personalities and vested interests all along the way."
The Venetian Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada
The Venetian Las Vegas
is a luxury hotel and
casino resort located on the Las Vegas Strip in
Paradise, Nevada, United States, on the site of the old Sands Hotel, designed by Kling Stubbins.
The Venetian is owned by Vici Properties and operated by Apollo Global Management. The Venetian-Palazzo complex includes the world's second-largest hotel, with 4,049 rooms, 3,068 suites and a 120,000-square-foot (11,000 m2) casino.
The resort opened on May 3, 1999, with a flutter of white doves, sounding trumpets and singing gondoliers. Actress Sophia Loren joined Sheldon Adelson, the chairman and owner, in dedicating the first motorized gondola. Built at a cost of $1.5 billion, it was one of the most expensive resorts of its kind when it opened.
The hotel uses Venice, Italy, as its design inspiration and features architectural replicas of various Venetian landmarks, including the Palazzo Ducale, Piazza San Marco, Piazzetta di San Marco, the Lion of Venice Column and the Column of Saint Theodore, St Mark's Campanile, and the Rialto Bridge. The logo was designed by Ross Patrick at Maddocks & Company. The design architects for this project were The Stubbins Associates and WAT&G. Interior design was provided by Wilson Associates and Dougall Associates for the casino.

"It's one thing to reproduce accurate, period-style architectural elements
and decorative design motifs, but it's quite another to scale up everything to actual size and then paint it all on canvas so that it looks 'real' when viewed from 20 feet below,
on coffered and coved ceilings!..."

"Everything went really well, for a while...
We all contributed our very best 'Artistic-Mojo-Magic' and applied all the traditional
secret 'Freemason' and 'Rosicrucian' perspective tricks we knew
And when the 'Wolfman' from Venice arrived, we all had a great time scumbling
and glazing things up to achieve that 'Old-World' look..."

"Things got really scary though when the 'Mob-Bosses' showed up and insisted on us adding that final 'Mona-Lisa effect' (?)!
What really saved the day though was when we realized
that all of the armed 'Body-Guards' were all
trying to quit smoking cigarettes!
All at the same time!!
(I think it was Greg who finally passed out the lolly-pops!
and that really seemed to calm everyone down!)
I'm not sure where Tracy found the 'Mona-Lisa-FX-clear-coat'
but it seemed to really do the trick!
Whew! That was close!!" -Roberto Quintana
