Each painting on the continuum has a unique history, but the overall process by which each painting develops within the series has similarities. Each painting evolves over several stages. Starting out as abstractions and textures, evolving into motifs and themes; then moving through a period of associative or emerging symbols; Finally incorporating embedded images - found-objects of the psyche, washed up on the shores of consciousness.
Where does the realm of consciousness lie?
Where is the blue of the morning sky?

"The scientific process has revealed to us that the fundamental structures of the material world are indeterminate at the quantum level. Their statistically random dance emerges from the quantum-field, giving rise to a world of order… governed by physical laws of conservation, measurable via our senses and expressed through mathematics, music, color and light.
Human instincts - desire and fear, the will to power, to explore, to understand - lie at the heart of culture: art, science, philosophy… civilization. These paintings explore the foundations of consciousness through symbols, metaphore, mythological and poetic images, structures of our experienced realities." -RQ

'Angel del Sol'
                            Oils on Panel, 10' x 4'
(Not for Sale)

I originally designed this painting as a mural-totem for the 'City of the Angels,'  a book-end to the green lady on the east coast. I designed it to be painted, or possibly constructed with tile, on the Federal building on
Wilshire Blvd. facing the 405 fwy. near Century City on the westside of L.A.
The painting was a prototype for the project, but...I liked it so much I adopted it as my own totem and I use it on my business cards, mailers and print ads.
I still think it would make a great mural on the Federal building... maybe next year. -RQ

'The Sentinel'
                Acrylics on canvas, 36" x 36"

This painting is about the Watcher, the Humunculus, the UberEgo. The struggle for mastery and integration. A disciplined warrior's patient vigil for insight. A jihad for peace and balance.

'The Temptation of Eve'
                     Acrylics on panel, 48" x 48"
$3,600.00 framed.

So... here we have a seductive woman, an Eve or Anima...  a feathered serpent
and or snake... or perhaps a pterosaur from the Late Cretaceous period of North America. The woman stands in a field of golden light, separated by a screen from another realm, where the serpent lies. I'm not sure if this is Freudian, Jungian, or Kundalinian...  but I like the pose.

'Coke-Bottle Eyes'
             Mixed-media on panel, 36" x 48"
$2,400.00

Extending our vision, our understanding of the world around us and of our universe, with the use of tools and technologies is one of the aims of science.
The extension of our vision and experience of the worlds behind this one with the use of the tools and technologies of meditation, fasting, ritual, dance, psychotropics, and grace... is the aim of the shaman/ artist/ mystic.

'Martian Chronicle'
             Mixed-media  on panel, 36" x 48"

I can remember as a child, the "Red" Sputnik in black and white. When I was a teenager, I saw the Apollo program 'in living color,' with its successes and tragedies, land a human on our bright moon in a deep, dark sky.
I came of age with a blue-marble Earth-rise over the silver-gray lunar surface, floating in indigo space-time.
By my mid-century I have shared in the experience of seeing the horizon of a crimson other-world in the heavens of our star system. This painting must be mythological.

The fundamental structure of the material world is indeterminant at the quantum level. However, its statistically random dance emerges from the quantum-foam and gives rise to a world of order, governed by physical laws of conservation, measurable via our senses, expressed through mathematics, music, and color. Revealed and confirmed by the scientific process.
Much to Einstein's reported disappointment, the fundamental structure of matter and energy appears to be the result of a dice game being played in the basement.

'No Matter... '
Acrylic and enamels on panel 48" x 36"
(Not for sale.}

Holding a mirror up to ourselves we discover we are co-creators.
The alchemy of transformation.
Narcissus and Goldmond together, in love.

"No matter where you go, there you are!"

Picture
'Point of View'
             Mixed-media on panel, 48" x 36"

We experience our world indirectly through our senses.
Light images are focused onto our retina, upside-down, then processed as chemical energy by the neurons in our brain's visual centers.
In the blue dusk a hawk soars overhead, watching us from the sky. What does she see?
Where does the realm of consciousness lie?
Where is the blue of the sky?

Electromagnetic energy, the source of all light from microwaves to gamma-rays, expresses itself as both waves and particles, depending on how we want to measure it.
Zeus, the godhead of Olympus, disguised himself as a swan in order to seduce the fair Lydia.
The true nature of a fundamental aspect of our universe remains cloaked in a parodox. Our senses are seduced by a god playing hide and seek.
